The Federal Trade Commission voted unanimously to retain the July 1st, 2013 date for implementation of the updated Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule. Industry organizations had requested that the FTC reconsider the implementation date for July. The FTC responded by stating that the July 1, 2013 date was announced in December of 2012, giving companies more than six months to prepare. The FTC noted that during the past six months that it has conducted numerous meetings with organizations as well as with individual businesses on how to ensure compliance with the new rule.
